We Think...

Launched in 2008 and made by Swedish Match in Kungälv, Sweden, General Sterk Portion ('Sterk' meaning 'Strong' in Norwegian) is the first in a long line of snus that raised the bar in higher Nicotine content in snus. General Sterk is classified as a White portion snus which means that the portions do not go thru the added step which adds a bit more moisture to them. By not going thru this step, the material stays its original White color but can leave it a bit dry. While the material is dryer than a regular type portion, Swedish Match uses the same soft material that they use in all their portion snus and remains comfortable in the lip for about 2 hours. Each can of General Sterk contains 24, one gram portions arranged in the unique “Star” pattern that Swedish Match reserves for only its higher end portions. Each portion has 11 mg of Nicotine which is about 35% higher than its sibling General White portion. The can is made of gray plastic and has a used portion compartment under the General logo in the lid. The can also has a plasticized paper label with a curious description on it. That description is “Norwegian Edition”.

While General Sterk is made in Sweden, it was first released in Norway for two main reasons. The first one being that outside of Sweden, Norway is the largest market for Swedish snus. The second reason is that the Norwegians were asking for a snus with a stronger Nicotine content and, Swedish Match answered them by introducing General Sterk! Now that you know a bit about the snus and the label, let’s talk taste!

General Sterk’s flavor is classic General! The same flavors of hand selected tobaccos from around the world and lemon that are in General White portion are present in General Sterk with the addition of a peppery note and a slight burn in the back of the throat which we attribute to the higher Nicotine content. All together, General Sterk combines all the traditional flavors that we like in General with the added kick of 11 mg of Nicotine. We think that General Sterk is a great snus for the snus user that is looking to explore the higher Nicotine brands but, we’d like to know what you think!

So give General Sterk portion snus a try with your next order and leave a review of your own! We’ll be looking forward to reading it!

I think General Sterk is very over rated. To me it has a strong bitter smell and the taste is the same. No taste of tobacco is there, only some strange pungent taste I cannot quite discern. I have never kept one in long enough to tell how strong it's nicotine content is. Seems like most others like General Sterk but if you do not like the other strong portions from Swedish Match you may not like this one either.

Really really liking this Snus. I'm 4 or 5 potions in so far and this may be my new go-to. Starts with a little salt, then the nice citrusy tobacco flavors come in. Juices just enough to give continuous flavor without being too saucy. I usually get about an hour out of these. The fan/wedge arrangment of the portions is a nice touch.

Good stuff. Out of the 3 General strongs (Onyx and Ekstra Sterk being the other 2), this is my least favorite, but it's still very nice. The fan formation is a nice touch, and the portion sits really nicely. Definitely worth a try, especially for white portion fans.

This snus is a great value, especially when compared to the more expensive General Onyx. Both Sterk and Onyx come arranged in a nice fan formation, and the portions are compressed into a wedge shape. While many praise the wedge shape as a better fit for the gums, I find that it peeks down below the lip a little too much. Additionally, the wedge-shaped portions are a little hard, so they can chafe against the gums. To fix these problems, I generally soften them up a little bit by rolling them between my fingers before I put them in. On the plus side, the portions seem to stay fresh longer, maybe because the compressed wedges prevent too much exposure to air before use. Just a theory. The flavor is excellent, strong and with the delicious citrus taste General is known for.

This is a wonderful snus. It gives off a flavor closer to the los and maintains its flavor longer. Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed, especially the nice wedge shape of the portion.

If you're a fan of General (and who isn't) you'll love the extra kick this provides. To me Onyx has more of a pronounced lime taste (I love the Onyx too). And don't forget this is much more affordable!

general sterk is one of my main stays its just like the regular general but with abit more umph it has a good clean nicotine hit that creeps up on you rather than just whack you in the brain with a bat so rather than a massive one hit it lasts which means you can leave it in for longer and use less snus over time but maintain that happy nicotine level and like most sterks its a real winner if your switching over from cigarettes. in no time at all lighting up will be a thing of the past

As I used snus to quit cigarettes, I’ve always gone for the strong portion snus. That said, I must concur completely with the above reviewer. Onyx is my FAVORITE snus. General Sterk is my second. I love the fan formation and the way the wedge-shaped portions fit perfectly under my lip- just like Onyx. And as the reviewer above commented: “So if you like General and Onyx, then you'll love this - especially when you compare the price of a can of Onyx to this.” So true

Now, I have to start this review by saying that I'm not generally a fan of strong portions; but something about the General Sterk made me want to try it. First the can. And it is a nice one. It's like a General Onyx can, with the different shape ashtray lid - but grey with a sticker on top instead of the metal-look. Inside the comparison to Onyx continues. The portions, whilst white, are wedge-shaped and set out in a fan formation. I must say, I'm a fan of this. The star formation of the is just cool, and the wedge-shaped portions are really comfortable under the lip. My only issue is that it can hang down a bit lower than a regular portion. The taste is good. It's definitely general, with the citrus and peppery flavour over the tobacco. It's most like a General White portion, with a subtle difference in flavour. What's great is that it doesn't have too much of that dark sterk flavour that some strong snusses have. Also, the hit isn't too much for a strong snus. Probably the closest is, again, like Onyx. As I said at the start, I don't like strong snusses but I can still see myself reaching for these in times when I want something a bit more. All in all, this snus is something a little special. In fact, I think it's got more than a little of Onyx about it - not the complete package, but a part of the way there. So if you like General and Onyx, then you'll love this - especially when you compare the price of a can of Onyx to this.
