Made by Swedish Match in Kungälv, Sweden, General White portion snus is classified as a White type portion which means that they do not put the portions thru the additional step in the manufacturing process that adds more moisture to them. While this leaves the portion material dry, the fact that Swedish Match uses the same soft material they use in all their snus and that the snus its self has more moisture in it than typical snus, makes the portions really comfortable in the lip for well over 2 hours and the flavors to release faster than other White type snus. Each can of General White contains 24, one gram portions that are shaped in the unique “Star” pattern that Swedish Match reserves for only the best snus and each portion contains 8 mg of Nicotine. The can is made of gray plastic with a plasticized label and the General logo on the lid. There is also a used portion compartment that’s concealed under the logo in the lid but, you’re here for the flavors so, let’s discuss that now!
Swedish Match describes General White’s flavor as slightly peppery with hints of citrus zest and balanced tobacco notes but we feel the pepper and citrus flavors take center stage here. The peppery note comes from the blend of different tobaccos from around the world that are used in General White and the citrus is bergamot which had a lemon/grapefruit flavor. The salt also plays an important part in the flavor since it enhances the bergamot and actually aids in bringing out the flavor in the tobacco. Overall, General White portion snus is a great snus with a flavor that is truly special but, we want to know what you think!
So, why not give a can of General White portion snus a try with your next order and tell us what you think by leaving a review of your own. We’ll be looking forward to reading it!

I have finally found my favorite, traditional Swedish snus! Before I go into my review though I am a bit puzzled. I have some General White Portion on order from Northerner as I write this review, so to tide me over I bought some from my local cigar shop. First of all it cost me $5.00 in the states which I expected but the wedge/fan pattern was not there? The previous cans I got from Northerner had the new fanned pattern but the can I just bought didn't. I guess that's a new change and it will take a while for the new cans with the fanned out snus to slowly replace current inventories here in the states. Now for the snus itself. If anyone has read any of my other reviews on any of the other snus' I have tried will notice that I am not a fan of a peppery, salty snus. For some reason though this stuff is very mild and smooth. If they could only put the flavor of the Camel Frost snus sold here in the U.S. into the General style packaging with the fanned out indivudual snus pouches and add a little extra nicotine kick they would have a HUGE, bona-fide hit on their hands. I have even heard a rumor that Swedish Match is going to take on Camel Frost with a new product at the end of this month...we'll see. Great snus if you like the traditional peppery, slightly lemon tasing snus.

I have not found a General that I did not like. Every one of them are very good. General is the best snus money can buy IMO. Snus 0n.....And enjoy!.

General is great, and the wedged shape only adds to the experience. The wedged shape portion is not just about looks, it also makes for a good fit in the upper lip and gives the portion more of a timed release.
Excellent product.

I thought it's worth updating my review since there's been a couple of changes since my other one.
General White Portion has gone the way of the General Sterk. The portions are ow formed into a wedge-shape and arranged into a star formation in the can. The star-formation is pretty cool, even if it's just cosmetic and only lasts till you've had a few.
The wedge-shape does seem to change the experience somewhat. I usually push my portions pretty far up, but these ones seem to want to remain flatter against the gum and hang further down. In my experience this seems to make them run, and taste, a bit more - I certainly get more citrus these days.
I'm not actually sure I like them as much as I used to. Northerner accidentally sent me original portions in my last order (which I don't normally use) but after using them and now these, I'm considering defecting.
Don't get me wrong, this is still General, and it's still great. Maybe I just need to be rougher with the portion and cram it up there like I did the old ones - but the shape just doesn't lend itself to that. Maybe once I've gone through another can It'll grow on me... who knows...

So far my favorite snus, ordering rolls of it. Great long lasting, distinct flavor without a bad aftertaste.

Hey it's General. What's not to like. Distinctive taste, long lasting flavor and something you can use all day.
This is another one that I keep a can of at work and at home.
To me it taste the same as the Original portion. The White just takes a little longer to kick in. (Slight preference to the original because it feels better on my gum's then the white.)

I much prefer this over General original portion. I get more of citrus flavor out of this one, for some reason. And it lasts much longer.

This also was one of my first more traditional flavored snuses and one of my favorites now. I love the bergamot, lemon citrus flavor combined with the tobacco. I've heard others describe it as a grilled lemon because of the salt and pepper flavors with the citrus and agree but a fine tasting grilled lemon. Once you get your snus legs you will enjoy this as a classic snus flavor.

General is the yard stick by which other snus is measured. The citrus flavor is excellent and long-lasting, and the white portions last a long time before they drip. I paid seven dollars for a can of General at a tobacco shop in the United States before I found Northerner, so I highly recommend you get yours here.

This was the first snus I ever tried, and I'm still a novice snuser, so keep that in mind.
The flavors I detected were smoke, tobacco, citrus, and pepper in that order. General uses liquid smoke in this snus, which was a bit of a love/hate for me. On one hand I liked the taste, on the other hand it made the resulting juice nearly impossible for me to swallow. The tobacco taste is nice and clean. The citrus is there, but you almost forget after awhile. I found it to be just about right in terms of strength. The pepper added some additional bite, though I found it hard to separate the tobacco and the pepper flavors.
Overall I liked it, but I think I'll check out what else there is in the world of snus before ordering another can of general.

It's a bit on the dry side compared to a lot of other white portions, but it doesn't drip much if at all and it has the classic general flavor with bergamot, lemon, and tobacco. Gotta love the peppery taste of General as well. Most often that not, after I have one in, I'll sneeze from the pepper, but it tastes great!
- sychodelix, 03/22/2009 06:24:06
I prefer the original portion to the whites on this one, but it's still very good. No complaints whatsoever.
krtownsend71, 03/20/2009 16:55:23
My first and still a favorite. Nice tobacco flavor with just a bit of lemon overtone. Nice, clean and flavor is long-lasting. a good starter for first-timers.

Most amazing snus I've ever tried!
Before I switched to General I have only used Goteborgs Rape so imagine how cool it was to try General and feel its awesome lemon taste... I was amazed. The only drawback I guess, is that once you get used to it you don't really feel the lemon anymore - at least I don't. Maybe if I switched to other snus for a bit and came back to General again I'd feel "The One Taste", the taste that made me want more and more.
Nevertheless, it's very good and tastes even better if you've only tried tobacco flavour snus before - be sure to try it out, it will quite possibly become your favorite snus!
- Nicker, 03/02/2009 17:45:17
Hey, the first snus I ever tried, and still one of my favorites.
Well General is of course the big one; the one that everyone uses. Apparently it accounts for around half the snus sold, and there's got to be a reason for that.
Now, I don't know whether those figures are counted across the whole General range, because it is the biggest range by far, it comes more formats than you can shake a stick at - and more are coming out every day.
What can I say that hasn't been said before? There's tobacco, there's citrus, and there's that special peppery flavour which make General stand out on its own (although there's plenty of snus trying hard to replicate the taste). As it says on the can, it's "the one taste" and no other is quite the same.
With the possible exception of Onyx (for when I want something a bit special) this is my favourite of the General brand; although this is probably mostly down to my personal preference for white portions.
To be honest, I'm sure most people reading this have already tried General, but if you haven't, what are you waiting for? Get hold of some now! You may not know what you're missing...
