Gustavus Original portion snus is a regular type portion snus manufactured by the folks at JTI Tobacco in Sweden. Being classed as a regular portion means that each portion gets an additional wetting before being packaged in the can to help the flavors in the snus meld together and come out quicker! Each can of Gustavus Original portion has 24, one gram portions with each having 8 mg of Nicotine. The material is the same kind that’s typically used in most portion snus and is quite comfortable in the lip for up to 1 ½ hours.
Gustavus Original portion’s can has recently had a facelift from its former grey plastic can and metallic plastic label to a modern, curved edge, black plastic can with a hinged, metallic lid for its used portion compartment cover. They also embossed the Gustavus logo in it as well! The label is also plastic and seals the lid and bottom much better. While the can is really cool looking, the taste is what’s important!
Gustavus Original portion’s taste is actually pretty complex for a lower priced snus! Flavors of rich tobacco and bergamot (for those of you that have never tasted Bergamot, it has a flavor that’s a mix of lemon and grapefruit) are the dominant tastes while salt and herbal accents are in the background. The surprising thing with Gustavus Original portion is how long the flavor lasts! There’s a school of thought that says “Lower priced means lower quality”. With Gustavus Original, this isn’t the case. The flavor lasts for over an hour and a half and the taste is just as good as any higher priced snus but we’ll would like you be the judge!
