Like its White type sibling, Skruf Original portion snus is made by Skruf AB in Sweden. Skruf Original was launched in 2003 and is a regular, or Original, type portion snus meaning that the portions go thru an additional step in the manufacturing process that aids in the flavors melding together and allows the flavor to be released quicker once it’s in the lip. While this process is pretty much the same with most regular type portion snus, Skruf’s regular types are a bit different. There is actually less moisture added in this step than with other manufacturers due to the amount of moisture added to the snus its self. This leaves the material a bit dryer than most but since the portion material that Skruf uses in Original is the same soft material that they use in all their portion snus, it still remains comfortable under the lip for about 2 hours. Each can of Skruf Original contains 24, one gram portions with each having 8 mg of Nicotine. Skruf Original’s can is the trademark white plastic can that is used in all Skruf brands with a clear plastic label that seals the can and aids in keeping the snus fresh until you use it! There is also a used portion compartment in the top with the Skruf name embossed in the lid but, you’re here for the flavor, not the can so, let’s take a look at how Original tastes!
While Skruf Original also comes in a White portion version, some would think that the flavor would be a bit different. In actuality, the flavor is the same; it’s just stronger with regular or Original types. Ok, on to the flavor. Skruf Original’s flavor is a mix of pure tobacco, with a hint of bergamot (a lemon/grapefruit flavor), salt and flowery notes from the Rose oil. The Rose oil flavor, while it just in the background, can really be sensed in the smell. All of these elements combine to make, what we think, is a great tasting snus but, we want you to decide!

The smell hooked me straight away! I love the taste of Skruf, I basically rate all snus by comparison to this. My absolute favourite, great taste and nicotine, my regular snus.

I would have to say that this will be in my regular rotation, its a good one to use for e when I want a slightly stronger kick than some of the other portions I use.

I am trying to quit smoking and decided to try Swedish snus after viewing the videos from Svandal(Confessions of a former smoker, quite smoking with snus 1-4) on YouTube. I tried the readily available USA version(Camel Frost snus) and although I liked the taste alot it didn't have the nicotine kick I wanted/needed. So I tried a few different varieties from Northerner. SKRUF Original Portion was one of them. Yuck! I'm sure a longtime snus user will probably enjoy SKRUF but I found it's native taste bitter and loaded with salt. Yeah the cans are cool looking but that's not enough for me to buy it. I've figured out that I need a strong wintergreen or fruit flavored snus and not the normal salty, peppery tobacco tasting snus' like General or SKRUF. Although I will say that General White Portion is very mild and tolerable. Plus the way the snus is displayed inside is really cool with that fanned out pattern. I still haven't had a cigarette in over a month and don't feel the need to so the snus is working but I need to find the right flavor!

this is a mainstay. tastes like general, but a little milder. i like the portion shape. i don't tire of this as i do with stronger flavored portions.

There's something about the Skruf brand which just says "cool" to me. I think it's mostly the cans. They're still recognisably snus cans - not disguised like the Nick and Johnny East and West or the old Vertigo brand - but they're different, mainly by virtue of their bright white appearance. Maybe that was something Swedish Match were trying to emulate with their "Claq Qui" offering.
Lots of people count Skruf Stark as a firm favourite, but I'm no stark fan, so I picked up some of the original. The portions themselves are original portions, but are a more rounded shape than most. They also seem to have a thicker portion material than most, which makes them drier on the outside - maybe between a white and and original portion, although closer to the originals. As an aside, Skruf have released white versions now, so you may want to try one of those.
Skruf Original, to me however, is all about the flavour. It's a quality tobacco flavour with a nice balanced bergamot and a lovely underlying taste of rose oil. On pure flavour alone it's personal favorite, although it's quite a strong taste which can get tiring - and send my back to my Grovsnus.
If you haven't tried some, I can't recommend picking some up more.
